I was 23 years old in 1973 when I started in the field of addiction, trauma, grief, codependency, and affected family members' recovery. In 1989 I began my private practice and added acupressure and acupuncture to my skill set used to help teens and adults more quickly resolve their life challenges. I have created a safe environment for people to explore the damage done to them by themselves and others, to experience any unresolved feelings they are attached to so they may grieve their losses and say goodbye to the pain/s of their past so they can discover and explore who they are.

Since I began in 1973, I've evolved from simply treating alcohol and drug problems to treating all addictive chemical and behavioral disorders, including nicotine and prescription medications, and those affected by the disease of addiction. In 1980 I began treating co-dependency, shame, PTSD, trauma, unresolved grief from death and non-death-related losses, survivors of sexual abuse, incest, violence, and other dysfunctional family patterns of behavior. I've expanded my therapeutic skill set to include rapid therapy techniques. If it takes a second to be affected by a problem or incident, then it stands true that it only takes a second to release the problem. It is one's attachment to the problem, the meaning they give or gave it, that is worked on in therapy. The incident happened in the recent or distant past, it is how they have attached to it or them, and letting that go is the task of recovery. Therapeutic techniques like Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), Thought Field Therapy (TFT), and Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), all evidence-based therapies for rapid recovery are used to help clients drop their conscious and often unconscious attachments. Hypnosis uses the power of the subconscious mind to help one let go of limiting and harmful patterns of behavior and beliefs. Boundaries let a person define for themselves what comes into their space, how they are impacted by what is said or done, how they are going to be touched or not and by whom, financially how they relate to money and possessions and/or is self-esteem or personal value attached to how much or little one has, and spiritual boundaries define the person's spiritual beliefs. As you can see boundary development is significant in recovery from whatever brings one into therapy. I also have learned that all therapy is grief work in action. One must release or let go of old ideas, people, places, things, and or events to make room for a created future. Developing the clarity of mind to say, see, feel, and release what has been left unsaid and saying it and then moving on to saying goodbye is the heart of all therapy and support group work. To paraphrase the Bible statement "Speak, express, experience the truth and by doing that you will be free" is what comes to mind. In secrecy, the information controls you, in privacy, you control the information.
