I am an experienced addictions counselor and have been also conducting mental health therapy as an intern and now licensed associate. My specialties are LBGTQ+ populations; forensic population with a focus on individuals who have PTSD and childhood trauma; marriage and family; and complex trauma.
My name is Melissa Yang, I am from Tacoma, WA and have also lived in the Midwest. I love going on outdoor adventures with my family and dogs. I am both a parent and a grandparent. My approach to counseling is one that is both humanistic and eclectic, which means that I can use various techniques from multiple theoretical approaches and believe that the client is the one in the "driver's seat." I believe that I have much to offer my clients as I am empathetic, genuine, and practice active listening. I have cultural competency and have experienced life in multiple cultures, as well as believe that where we come from has a great impact on who we are today. We are all individuals; therefore each client will have a different set of expectations and needs. I strive to provide services that accommodate everyone.
