About me
I am a licensed professional counselor (LMHCA, Professional Counselor Associate) helping individuals in the Portland, OR, Vancouver, WA Metro area find meaningful and lasting solutions in a confidential and safe environment. Everyone needs help at times setting things right in life, whether that is dealing with depression, anxiety, trauma, and relationship problems. Using evidence-based and research-supported practices, I can help you create a plan around sustainable goals and needs. I am client-centered in my approach to counseling and I honor the intuition and desires you have as we work together. For those interested, we can also work together to incorporate faith, spirituality, and mindful practices, along with body-based treatment approaches. I offer a free 20-minute initial consultation.
I believe that each person inherently has good insight and wisdom regarding their own experiences, beliefs, and needs. My role as a therapist is to listen, discern, collaborate, and help each of my clients overcome and resolve problems and to define their treatment goals. The path to healing, progress, happiness and a reduction of suffering can be an in-depth process that need not be experienced alone. I am trained as a professional counselor and use various psychological theories and evidence-based practices in an integrated way that can be adapted to the needs and desires of each client. My own background and experiences are components that can be integrated for those clients wanting to include or explore faith and spiritual practices as part of their counseling experience. Some of the most common psychotherapy approaches I use are cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT),
dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and motivational interviewing (MI). My approach overall is client-centered that emphasizes acceptance, openness, and unconditional positive regard, believing that clients already possess the qualities they need to heal and flourish.
I hold a master’s degree in counseling from Multnomah University and studied major coursework including Principles & Techniques of Counseling, Personality & Counseling Theories, Social & Cultural Foundations, Group Theory & Therapy, Diagnosis, Professional Orientation, Ethics, and Trauma Interventions. I also hold a bachelor’s degree in Bible & Theology from Multnomah University, with an emphasis in Pastoral Studies, and have taken numerous professional and life coaching courses and have received training in community mediation. I am a professional counselor associate in OR (R7405), and a licensed mental health associate in WA (MC61256645), and work under the supervision of Laurie Ellett, LCSW, L2609, LW60147004, NPI 1922154814 with whom I meet regularly as required by the Oregon and Washington state board of counselors.
