I use my experience and insight in hopes of affecting life-changing impact on the lives of my clients. Their issues are varied but all have one thing in common, they are people who are highly motivated to change. For some couples and/or individuals, this is accomplished in brief, intensive sessions; for others in long-term therapy. But for all, change is inevitable as they become empowered by their increased self-awareness.
Person-centered psychotherapy recognizes that personal transformation or healing occurs in an atmosphere of trust and acceptance, where a non-judgmental relationship unfolds between client and therapist. In this safe harbor, clients are able to explore the difficult life issues which prevent them from realizing their potential. The therapist serves as a compassionate guide rather than an all-knowing authoritarian, and gently assists the client to discover deeper levels of self-understanding. Mary Ann will use more directive approaches when necessary to the benefit of the client.
