About me
Kimberly is a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst and Registered Mental Health Counselling Intern with over 10 years of clinical experience in the mental health industry. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and ADHD by combining the modalities of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I also work with individuals who are suffering from Depression, Anxiety, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Relationship Issues, Family Conflict, Grief and Loss, Burnout, and general Life Stressors.
To the outside world, you seem like you have it all together. However, deep down inside you are feeling hopeless, lonely and overwhelmed. You may have an inner voice that is always reminding you that you aren't good enough and that you aren't doing enough. This inner critic is constantly reminding you of all the ways you are not measuring up to social expectations, and honestly you're exhausted. You may also be used to focusing and investing all your time and energy into others, and find that you are always putting yourself last. This leaves you depleted, anxious and overwhelmed. If this resonates with you, it is time to reclaim your life as your own.
I want to be able to help you feel comfortable in your own skin, learn how to relax and fully enjoy your life. I will work with you to help you learn to accept yourself in a safe space without judgment. We can work together to help quieten that inner critic so you can feel free from social pressures. Your experiences and feelings are valid, despite what others may have told you.
I have always been a champion for Culturally Sensitive Treatment. Essentially, I like to look at how our values and beliefs affect how we perceive mental health challenges and how this may even make you reluctant to seek help. My goal is to help break down these barriers and with you and provide a space for you to let you know that it is okay to prioritize your needs and wants. Remember you need to put on your oxygen mask first before you can help anyone else. Having been born and raised on the beautiful island of Jamaica, I also understand the challenges that come along with the immigrant experience. It can be quite overwhelming to adjust to a new culture. If you think we are a good fit, I encourage you to reach out to me.
