About me
I am Joy Johnson and I specialize in trauma therapy. I have worked for many years with survivors of violent and criminal acts. Currently I work with survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. No one comes to therapy with just one or two issues so I threat each person with a holistic approach to envelop other issues such as depression, anxiety, addictions and personality disorders etc.
I grew up in Northern Virginia and earned several Master's degrees from Utah State University in Logan Utah. My first Master's is in Rehabilitation Counseling and my second in Social Work. I am an experienced therapist who has had years of experienced working with forensic cases (court ordered clients) where I treated abusers and survivors of violent criminal acts and was a Provider for the Utah State Department of Corrections, and a NOJOS therapist working with youth who acted out sexually. Over the years I have developed the expertise to treat trauma survivors while working with law enforcement and the Courts. Today my area of focus is in treating survivors of sexual abuse and sex trafficking, both encompass elements of domestic abuse. Currently I work with a non-profit , The Refuge Utah, where we help clients on the front lines to feel safe to heal and become empowered in that process.
