About me

I bring 29 years of experience to a private practice focused on non-pathologizing, collaborative healing

I am a life-long native of the Chicago area. I my B.S. from the University of Illinois at Chicago with a major in psychology. I went on to pursue my Masters and Doctoral degrees at Argosy University/Illinois School of Professional Psychology. I have worked in the behavioral health field in a variety of capacities since 1993, obtaining my doctoral degree in 2003. From multiply-diagnosed, residentially-placed adolescents to domestic violence offenders to private practice settings, the range of my experience is broad, varied, and comprehensive.

In addition to my clinical work, I serve as an adjunct professor, teaching Masters and Doctoral students at Roosevelt University. Whenever possible, I continue to design and present training, workshops, and seminars for educators and fellow behavioral health professionals.

My approach to therapy is holistic and non-pathologizing. Rather than focusing on a client’s diagnosis and symptom presentation, I focus on and learn from the client’s story. I and my client examine the meaning that has been made from and the lessons that have been learned from the client’s experience. Problematic and disempowering stories can then be “co-edited” so that the plot becomes more solution oriented and empowering. I take a collaborative approach to my clients, focusing on the quality of the client – therapist relationship, and making a priority of acknowledging and honoring the client’s perspective. I stress the connection of Mind – Body – Spirit in my work. I am a staunch advocate / ally of the LGBTQ community. The thread of Social Justice weaves its way through my clinical and academic work.
