I am passionate about partnering with people to build more satisfying and meaningful relationships with self and others for over 20 years in a variety of therapeutic settings.
I offer a safe space to explore ways to create more meaningful connections within your relational world. You can expect a strengths-based approach, attunement to rising emotional experiences, and reflection on relationship dynamics to facilitate growth and healing. I value client collaboration and integrate your feedback into the process. I believe the art of therapy is in how research supported tools are implemented: individual personalities, preferences, readiness, and the quality of our connection are elements considered in creating a customized experience for you. When you come to see me, I will listen to you before intervening, seeking to understand the idiosyncrasies of your experience.
My specialty areas include trauma work, couples therapy, attachment work, and existential issues. Although much of my training includes cognitive-behavioral and experiential-based practices, I enjoy bringing contemporary psychoanalytic frameworks into my work to make sense of what may block a person's ability to connect. I believe to make significant changes it is important to pair practical interventions with considerations of the developmental, interpersonal, and neurobiological aspects of issues, within the context of a supportive therapeutic relationship. When indicated I seek to collaborate with a variety of health care providers and incorporate spiritual practices to deliver holistic services.
My formal training includes earning a Masters of Science in Marriage & Family Therapy at Fuller Theological Seminary and becoming a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist in California, which emphasizes relationship work as key to growth and change. In addition, I am trained and/or supervised in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR – EMDRIA approved basic trainings, plus advanced trainings), Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT – Core Skills trainings), Psychobiological Approach to Couples Therapy (PACT – Level 1), Reflective Practices, Dynamic Emotion-Focused Therapy (DEFT – Level 3), Neuro-Relational Framework, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Interpersonal Neurobiology, as well as certified in providing Seeking Safety, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Triple P Parenting, and Parent-Child Interaction Therapy. I have worked in group private practice, psychiatric hospital, church counseling, and community mental health settings.
Research suggests good therapy happens when there is a "goodness of fit" between the client and therapist, a sense of positive connection. It is the connection that creates the possibility for change. This is why I offer initial consultations at no charge to clients interested in exploring working together. Think of it as my way to encourage you to embark on what can seem like a daunting journey. The goal of the consultation is for us to get a sense of whether we would make a good team before making any commitments. Please be encouraged to take the first step in the change process by contacting me. No hard feelings if it is not a good fit, and I will try to link you to other professionals to further you along in your process. I welcome your contact and look forward to hearing from you!
