About me
Life gives us experiences that are unexpected, often perplexing and sometimes overwhelming. With over 30 years of practice, I've worked with wonderful people facing just about everything life has to offer. Through this, I've developed a way of working with clients that is empowering, and most of all, effective. Relief comes when we begin to understand the emotions motivating us. The ability to identify and soothe difficult emotions is central to alleviating depression, anxiety, the echoes of trauma, or relational issues.
Jennifer Lock Oman is a psychotherapist with 35 years of experience in the mental health field and a recognized expert in therapy for individuals, adolescents, couples and families.
Lock Oman is a published writer and graduate level adjunct college instructor. She has taught graduate courses at the University of Iowa, and has written a popular, nationally distributed, syndicated column published by the Gannett News Syndicate. The guiding focus of her work is the “biology and biography of emotion in the human experience”; more specifically, understanding and regulating the power of our emotional system to guide behavior, and effect change. While the emotional system has been long overlooked in the field of psychotherapy, for over two decades Lock Oman has studied and incorporated this knowledge in her practice, writing and teaching - enabling her patients, readers and students to benefit from the most current thinking in psychotherapy.
A graduate of Northwestern University (BA) and the University of Iowa (MSW), Lock Oman resides in Des Moines, Iowa.
