I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), and I received my Master's degree in Counseling Psychology from Bowie State University. I provide therapy to adults and couples who present with a variety of concerns including anxiety, stress, depression, loss/grief, life transitions, 'Little T' traumas, women's issues, codependency, perfectionism, black men's issues, work/life balance, relationship challenges, self esteem and marital issues. I have a particular passion for working with individuals who may consider themselves "Type A", empathic or highly sensitive. Clients that tend to be a good fit like to "go deep" with their personal growth work and may be described as out-of-the-box thinkers, intelligent and spiritually-inclined.
I take a collaborative approach with my clients to get to the root of their concerns, build their coping mechanisms, transform their current thinking, and build their confidence. My therapeutic focus can be described as eclectic- I tailor treatment to best meet the unique needs of each client drawing from humanistic, psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral and existential frameworks.
My aim is to help clients experience a heightened level of peace, happiness and fulfillment using cognitive insights, mindfulness tools and fostering courage to live according to their values and best self. Through this process, it will be brought to light what is underneath client symptoms and find growth. Thought patterns and beliefs are based on past experiences and relationships, and we will identify and challenge which ones may be preventing clients from being who they are meant to be. In the safety of this relationship, we will seek to understand and explore the challenges of the past, present, as well as client’s hopes for the future. Through our work together, clients will have greater self-awareness, new ways of perceiving experiences and new adaptive ways of behaving in response to situations perceived as troublesome. I view the therapeutic relationship as a vital part of this process; thus, I use authenticity, compassion & humor to create a supportive environment that is safe and nonjudgmental.
