My name is James E. Watkins III. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Georgia (LPC). I am also a Certified Anger Management Specialist, Certified Clinical Trauma Professional and a Certified Clinical Telemental Health Provider.
I worked in an an outpatient mental health center in Douglas County for almost 15 years conducting individual, group, couples/marital and family counseling. I have also maintained a private practice in East Cobb since 2004 and now I am doing that full time. I work with clients who have Bipolar Disorder, Anxiety Disorders, Major Depressive Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Social Phobia, Panic Disorder (with or without agoraphobia), and grief/loss to name a few.
I utilize many theories and interventions. The main ones used are Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Rational Behavior Therapy (REBT). These therapies subscribe to the idea that if we don’t like the way we are feeling emotionally, we must change the way we are thinking since the two are intimately connected. This concept is also known as “cognitive restructuring “. These forms of therapy are very effective at assisting clients in reducing and or eliminating destructive thought patterns and replacing them with more effective/healthy ones, thus exacting a positive change in the clients emotional status. Essentially, they help put YOU back in control of your emotions.
