About me
As an immigrant woman of color, my personal, professional and academic experiences have provided knowledge and awareness around issues of race, class, ethnicity, privilege and oppression. I hold a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies and am licensed with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences as a Marriage and Family Therapist.
Greetings! And thank you for visiting my profile. I have been providing mental health therapy services since 2006 and have extensive experience as a group facilitator, trainer & community educator. I specialize in understanding and addressing the impacts of trauma on individuals, families and communities.
I have a private practice in the Bay Area where I provide individual & couples therapy with people from diverse backgrounds including immigrants, formerly incarcerated individuals, people of color and people from the LGBTQ+ community.
I created and implemented a curriculum on trauma and healing, specifically designed for long term incarcerated individuals. From Feb 2008 - Sept 2018, I facilitated a weekly group based on this curriculum for the men of the San Quentin community.
I have created and implemented trainings for community based, social service agencies on trauma informed care, vicarious trauma, understanding addiction & addictive behaviors, preventing burnout, mental health 101, and a variety of other topics.
I have provided monthly supervision and support groups for front line staff that work in professions with high levels of job related trauma exposure, high staff turnover rates & burnout. This has included supporting staff who work with:
• juvenile offenders & gang involved individuals
• adults with severe & persistent mental illness
• adults on parole/probation for a variety of violent & non-violent offenses
• children, youth & families who have experienced high levels of trauma, loss & community violence
As an immigrant woman of color, I have had the privilege to live and work in multiple countries. I understand how to navigate multiple worlds, cultural norms and the impacts of trauma. I draw upon my own knowledge, life experiences, academic and professional skills and qualifications to support individuals, groups and communities to connect with their inherent strengths, resiliency and empowerment to facilitate healing change in their lives.
