Gwen Harville-Washington, Licensed Clinical Social Worker
Verified clinicians have had their licenses confirmed by our staff at the time they create their profile. We also require all verified therapists keep their licensing information up to date in order to maintain verified status.
Send your prospective therapist a brief message about why you’re seeking support, your preference for in-person or telehealth services, and how you’d like to be contacted moving forward. Note: Answers to many common questions can be found on the therapist’s profile page. If this is an emergency, please call 911 or go to your nearest hospital.
I am a licensed clinical social worker. I have over 20 years experience providing counseling services. I am committed to supporting mature adults who want to address issues such as; depression, trauma, anxiety, relationships, blended/step families and racial identity.
Are you motivated to work on healing from past experiences, work through a stressful life transition, or improve your family dynamics and relationships? Perhaps past traumas are negatively impacting the decisions you make, or maybe you are questioning or reassessing your career options. Are you experiencing challenges in your interaction with your teenage and/or adult children or your mate? Do your relationships feel overwhelming and you can't quite figure out how to improve them?
I am here to support mature adults who are at a stage in their lives in which they are redefining who they are and choosing life on their terms. This includes working with those who want to hone in on the areas of their lives that feel challenging and want to create healthy connections and supportive, respectful relationships. I aid individuals in understanding how past traumas and other negative experiences affect their behavior, their interactions with others, and the decisions they make. Maybe it's difficult to thoroughly examine the aspects of yourself that have influenced and guided your life decisions. There are aspects of each of us that are well meaning in their intentions. At the same time, these same parts of ourselves can cause us to second guess ourselves, take the "safe" route, be critical or judgmental of ourselves and others, and cause us to avoid anything that might cause us pain or disappointment.
Well, you don't have to face these challenges alone. With expertise in trauma, family therapy and parenting support, I specialize in helping others find better ways to connect in relationships, better understand themselves and their reactions, identify areas that are and are not working, and ultimately create more fulfilling relationships and career and life choices. I provide individual, family and couple's therapy. I am also currently building an interest list for those who would like to participate in a support group for women to aid in empowerment and meeting life goals.
I use a various treatment modalities including; Sand Tray, Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR); Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Mindfulness-Based Therapy, Adlerian Therapy, and Strength-Based Therapy.
