About me
I am Gail Amalfitano, a licensed psychotherapist, certified clinical trauma professional, and nationally certified counselor with the NBCC. In addition, I am trained in EMDR. I specialize in trauma and addictions. I am experienced in mood disorders (depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder), social anxiety, co-occurring disorders as well as life and relationship issues (phase of life, loneliness, emptiness, stress, feeling stuck, loss of a sense of self, adjustment issues, self-esteem, and so much more). I love what I do and I am devoted to my clients. I view the counseling process as driven by my clients goals. I have experience in private practice and inpatient levels of care, I have worked as a Liaison for drug courts to advocate for clients with substance and addiction, I have worked with ChildNet - counseling families and adolescents. I have worked inpatient levels of care for substance and co-occurring disorders.
I am EMDR trained, a CCTP-I trauma professional, and nationally certified counselor with the NBCC. I am CBT - focused; however, I utilize many other theoretical approaches in order to help me find what works for my client. I believe in the work I do with individuals. I believe that building trust with my client is critical in the process of creating change. I value my duties and I take my role serious. I have an easy going approach and I am flexible so I can adjust for what works for my client!
MY APPROACH: I have a very easy-going approach in which I like to build rapport, get to know you, and know what is going on with you. I utilize homework such as reading short articles, reading handouts, watching short videos, and some minor writing assignments. I am flexible with the homework in cases in which clients just want someone to talk with and understand that true problem solving requires learning and an investment of time. For individuals that truly only want to have someone they can talk with and do not want to invest time into reading or learning, I am flexible to meet this need with a conversation about expectations or simply providing me with feedback so I can adjust to your needs.
I offer telehealth only at this time.
