About me
Dr. Emma J Church (formerly Dr. Wood) is a licensed clinical psychologist who provides holistic individualized treatment to facilitate personal growth and mental health. Patient care is of primary concern for Dr. Church. She is highly relational and helps patients to feel safe and accepted within their first session. Dr. Church is known for her warmth, compassion and relatable interpersonal style. Due to her depth oriented focus it is not uncommon for Dr. Church help patients who have been in therapy previously and not gotten to the root of their problems.
Dr. Church has been in practice as a psychologist since 2010. She is a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional and has specific clinical expertise in narcissistic abuse, complex post traumatic stress disorder (C-PTSD), PTSD, post traumatic growth, minority mental health, spiritual and religious trauma and abuse, holistic and integrative healing, the intersection of culture and mental health, post-Christian and deconstruction as well as women's health and spirituality.
In addition to her clinical work Dr. Church is a writer, podcaster, public speaker, group facilitator, trainer and workshop leader with expertise in diversity, equity and inclusion, trauma informed spaces, PTSD, domestic violence, minority mental health issues, women's issues, narcissistic abuse, mental health and human rights, religious trauma and spiritual abuse and holistic approaches to nervous system healing. Dr. Church is reiki certified and uses her experience and background to facilitate an online coaching space named The Awakening: women healing from trauma, abuse and historical oppression.
Dr. Church began her career at Baylor University as a psychologist and the coordinator of outreach for the counseling center. She has taught classes for Baylor University at the undergraduate and doctorate levels and at Tarleton State University for their Master’s in Counseling program.
