About me

I am a licensed therapist who is dedicated to helping adults deal with anxiety, depression, anger, and grief using Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, Superhero Therapy, Geek Therapy, and DBT skills.

Even though our culture has developed the attitude that "happiness" should be our default state, life is often hard. We all face difficult transitions, experience scary situations, and often feel at the mercy of forces beyond our control. We easily can have trouble dealing with change as well as emotions like shame, guilt, anxiety, fear, anger, and grief. Faith crises and transitions are especially difficult because religion gives us our identity and sense of what it means to be human, our community, our relationship to power and authority, and how we can and cannot use our bodies—the very nature of reality.

I have a Master of Social Work and a Ph.D. in Religious Studies and I am full-time university faculty. I offer mindfulness-based, individualized outpatient counseling for a variety of mental health issues. I provide a compassionate ground for adults to identify and utilize their strengths to work toward building a life that lights them up. Though I have an academic background in all major religions of the world, my specialties are Mormonism (and other conservative Christianities), and various Contemporary Paganisms. I offer the experience of age and education as well as a lifetime love of learning and observation of the world and human nature. I offer expertise in how religion works in the lives of human beings combined with trauma-informed practice.

In my personal life, I am a videogamer [and a general all-around Geek] who [may] howl at the moon; a world traveler who gravitates to Scotland [and studies Scottish Gaelic for real]; and earth-centered water and sailboat lover.
