I'm a therapist who believes that therapy should feel authentic and help people to change their life based on their own experience. I want to learn about you. I will be the trusted voice that will challenge you to grow, and also to remind you to be gentle with yourself. I work best with people living with depression, anxiety, anger, trauma, and abuse. I have an interest in helping people who experience chronic trauma and PTSD, as well as those who identify as adult children of alcoholics and dysfunctional homes (ACA/ACOA).
I have certificates in personality disorders (PD), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and motivational interviewing (MI). I am focusing on enhancing my skills in trauma therapy and am EMDR level 2 certified, working toward national certification. I also use, and and am pursuing certification in, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT).
Personally, I use meditation, breathing techniques, and tones (music and natural sounds) to calm myself. I am very active with gardening, yoga, weight lifting and running. I will work with you to find a coping skill that helps you to feel calm and live without stress. Finding your "calm place" through a guided visualization is a common, important coping tool we develop together for you to use when we work through things that are trouble you. In any case, I am here to help you find what works!
