Am a husband, parent and grandparent. I aspire to be a good Relative and person. Am a Past President and a member of the Council of Elders with the Society of (American) Indian Psychologists. Am an experienced clinician in community medical and prison settings, having worked over a decade with the Federal Bureau of Prisons as a Drug Abuse Treatment Program Director (first National Drug Abuse Program Administrator), Chief of Psychology, and Associate Warden for Mental Health. Glad to work with families of, and with formerly incarcerated persons, to assist in maximizing relationships and life outcomes. Also worked with Indian Health Service for more than two decades in Browning MT and Rosebud SD, as a psychologist, program manager and administrator. Was a collegiate and international athlete (11 years with USA Team Handball National Team), am a former high school, collegiate, special olympics and international coach (football, wrestling, track, basketball, team handball-multiple National and Olympic Festival championships). Am an Army Veteran.
Practice culturally and trauma informed approaches with particular utilization of Motivational Interviewing process strategies and Internal Family Systems individual and family interventions. Glad to work with trauma recovery, anxiety, substance use issues, chronic pain issues, identity and spirituality issues, chronic medical and serious mental illness challenges. Have found that when we work with beliefs, thoughts, words and actions, in that order, we find practical solutions to difficult life issues and circumstances. Primarily focus on short term, solution focused psychotherapy treatment, and/or long -supportive psychotherapy for habituated or intractable conditions.
