Carolyn Black, PsyD, MA, LPC
Verified clinicians have had their licenses confirmed by our staff at the time they create their profile. We also require all verified therapists keep their licensing information up to date in order to maintain verified status.
Send your prospective therapist a brief message about why you’re seeking support, your preference for in-person or telehealth services, and how you’d like to be contacted moving forward. Note: Answers to many common questions can be found on the therapist’s profile page. If this is an emergency, please call 911 or go to your nearest hospital.
Sometimes, we can feel totally overwhelmed by the world around us. Other times, we just feel stuck and unsure of the best next steps to take. As your therapist, I can assure you that I will be with you every step of the way as we navigate uncertainties, explore challenging circumstances, and discover what it means to live a fulfilling life - together.
I strive to help people live authentically by helping with building and making meaning of experiences across all facets of life. I invite vulnerability, curiosity, and creativity into the therapy space for us to explore what matters and why. This often involves unpacking mental boxes that have been gathering dust for a long time. Other times, it involves stepping into unfamiliar territory and building the right amount of courage to do so. As we are all unique individuals, I find it important to utilize an integrative approach to treatment in that we will engage various types of tools, strategies, interventions, ideas, and activities in order to reach your goals. Specifically, my training background includes a MA in Forensic Psychology (i.e., working with people involved with the legal system) and a PsyD in Clinical Psychology (i.e., working with people from all walks of life), with a special focus on Therapeutic Assessment.
Not all identities are visible. As such, I live by the rule of "never make assumptions." I strongly believe in the importance of learning, exploring, and understanding context for all aspects of ourselves and others – as we humans can be pretty complex. I enjoy working with, advocating for, and embracing neurodiversity, LGBTQ+ communities, forensic populations, and intersectional multiculturalism in all of its forms. I am originally from Miami, FL and am of Cuban heritage on my maternal side. I am bisexual, genderqueer, and always excited to learn more about myself and those around me. I consider myself a denizen of the Internet and love incorporating meme culture into my work.
