About me
Welcome to Better Help, I’m Bryan Young, and for over 15 years, I’ve had the privilege of equipping people, to cultivate the qualities by outlining principles and encouraging practical steps to take regarding their mental, emotional and relational health concerns in hospital settings and private practice.
On better help I specialize in issues related to ADHD and men
wrestling with concerns related to relationships.
When I was working in the veteran’s hospital, I noticed that offering a cup of water before walking with them through the intake questions, provided more encouragement the questions and the label we had to put on the form.
As a humanistic psychodynamic therapist, I recognize that working with a counselor can bring up intense emotions between two people. I’m used to it; it’s my “job” to practice self-awareness of how my actions and inactions affect and effect people’s emotions every day.
We can all be more mindful when the past invades the present in the form of intense emotions, and what to do and what not do. This is what being an effective counselor has come to mean to me, I am as educated as I can be kind and effective for the person in front of me.
What you say should be used for you not against you in the counseling room.
The reality of being a therapist has come to mean to me that it is not only my privilege to help but an obligation to adjust to you don’t feel the need to adjust to me, counseling is a dynamic dialogue and authentic relationship round your lived experiences and values not a monologue about mine.
I look forward to equipping and supporting you, as we find a way forward to together.
Warmly,
Bryan Young
