About me

I bring not only in-depth training but also gritty real-world experience to my work with relationship issues and individual depression and anxiety.

I grew up farming. I've worked in a steel-molding factory, as a UPS driver helper, an emergency room chaplain, youth minister, and college professor. If the my background as a therapist freaks you out a little, I understand. However, I'm proud that one of my best friends is an atheist who describes me as "one of the few religious people I can talk to." I meet folks where they are, with a goal of helping folks chart their course to the healthiest version of themselves, just as my own counselor meets me where I am. For many years I drove teens around in a 15-passenger van, and that has become my analogy for counseling. When a van is full, the rearview mirror is useless for seeing vehicles. To change lanes is greatly aided by having the shotgun rider guide. I see the role of the counselor like that: helping the driver see things they might not otherwise be able to see. Also, I'm Star Trek Next Generation fan. (If you're not, I will meet you where you are. :) ) Being a shotgun rider is what Counselor Troi did--for everyone from ensign to captain. Whether helping a middle schooler deal with test anxiety or a celebrity couple navigate marriage issues or writer's block, it is a joy to share part of life's journey.
