About me
I have been working in the Mental Health field since 2016 when I graduated with my Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I have had opportunities to work with underserved populations of all ages in Substance Abuse Treatment, before transitioning to work with youth and families in the community setting. I have worked with youth and families for over 5 years helping youth, parents and families in crisis, as well as helping parents learn to navigate the world of developmental diagnoses and advocacy within the school system.
I utilize several approaches to meet the needs of clients. I approach sessions in a solution focused, strengths based manner. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a client centered approach I utilize with teens and adults that allows space for the client to think outside the box, identify the changes that are desired, and then implementing these changes. Having worked with children and families, I have experience in and utilize Trauma Informed Play Therapy, Applied Behavior Analysis, Psychoeducation as well as parent education and advocacy for children and youth with high needs. At times it is necessary for a family to come together in therapy to work through relationship issues, in which I am able to help create a safe space for families to heal.
A client should walk away from a session with some relief from sharing, and challenges to consider moving forward. I may challenge the client to help facilitate the work that can be done in between sessions. A client willing to do the work will feel empowered and motivated to make the necessary changes so that the client can find peace with the experiences that brought them to therapy.
