Annie Bertran, LCSW-C

Hi everyone! I am a Licensed Certified Social Worker Clinical Therapist in Bethesda, MD, and am the founder and therapist at Bertran Counseling LLC. I believe in providing a safe and supportive environment where I will collaborate with you to meet your goals by learning and practicing new skills to apply to your daily life. Throughout my career, I have learned how to remain calm no matter the crisis and provide a steady emotional rock for my clients to lean on throughout the difficult times in their lives.

I was born and raised in Montgomery County, MD, and began my college experience at Montgomery College. I then continued at University of Maryland, Baltimore County where I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Social Work with a minor in Psychology. After graduating, I moved to the heart of New York City in order to work as a Resident Advisor for a homeless shelter for boys aged 18-21. After I left New York, I continued my education by earning my Masters in Social Work from the University of Maryland, Baltimore in 2013.

I then began my career working in a variety of environments and situations including schools, nursing homes, intensive outpatient programs, emergency rooms, and partial hospitalization programs based in both hospitals and clinics. My extensive experience began with adolescents and those transitioning into adulthood. I specifically have worked with clients (13 and over) who are experiencing issues including trauma, school issues (bullying, executive function, stress), family issues (family trauma, family structure issues, parent coaching, family therapy), mental health disorders, substance abuse, and co-occurring disorders.

Following my formal education I began studying specific types of therapy. I received extensive training in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) through University of Maryland as well as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) through Behavioral Tech. Through continued learning and studying, I work from a clinical perspective that considers how the whole system affects each person uniquely.
I am also certified to provide clinical supervision for LMSW and LGPC. I focus on enhancing the skills, providing guidance in dealing with crisis situations, building knowledge, dealing with ethical issues in the field, and exploring self-care for those earning their supervision hours in Maryland.
