About me
My name is Angela Mendiola and I was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. I have been practicing in the counseling profession for the past 7 years. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from Chaminade University of Honolulu with an emphasis in Mental Health.
My professional training include graduate internships at Kailua High School, the Chaminade University Counseling Center, a national internship funded by North Carolina State University as a Project Youth Extension Service Intern where I served military youth impacted by deployment for one year and working in the Hawaii Department Education as a therapist and counselor where I worked with children and adolescents cope with anxiety, depression and anger.
Three components that I find most important in a therapeutic alliance are cultural sensitivity, active listening and empathy. The most profound and insightful thing that I have learned in my years as a mental health professional is that maintaining your mental health is important regardless of what stage in life you may be in and that it is a practice that may assist you in building meaningful social connections, healthy coping skills and to clarify life goals. I also believe that education and knowledge is truly powerful so I aim to provide clients with informative and educational tools such as articles and light reading material
Clients come to me looking for a therapist who is willing to listen and can demonstrate cultural understanding and sensitivity. My therapeutic style involves assisting you in clarifying goals around improving your mental health, discussing and building coping skills and exploring strategies that you can implement to help spark positive change.
I am a licensed Mental Health Counselor with extensive experience and training treating individuals and families who have difficulty coping with grief, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, relationship issues and addictions such as alcohol and drug abuse.
As a therapist, I know the first step is willing to seek and ask for help. You do not have to continue experiencing feelings of self-doubt, fear or being stuck alone. Call me today or contact me by email to schedule an appointment. I am excited to hear from you.
