I am an dedicated psychotherapist, who works with adults with a vareity of concerns and experiences, including anxiety, depression, anger, identity and LGBTQIA+.
Allan Michie is a Licensed Psychotherapist (MHC-LP) in New York State. He earned a Masters degree in Mental Health Counseling from Baruch College, studied Psychology at Hunter College, and gained a Masters Degree with honors in Social Sciences from the University of Glasgow.
For Allan, the therapeutic relationship in a safe, non-judgmental and supportive environment forms the foundation of successful psychotherapy. He takes an evidence-based, client-centered approach to therapy, integrating multiple therapeutic methodologies and tailoring them to the needs of each client. The modalities include Psychodynamic and CBT, as well as mindfulness and relaxation techniques. Allan endeavors to collaboratively develop healthy coping strategies and address current negative thinking patterns, while working to identify and process the underlying causes. He engages empathetically with clients to overcome anxiety, depression, and trauma of all kinds.
Having lived a wide and varied life, enables Allan to apply his theoretical approach to real life situations and appreciate the challenges individuals face as they progress through each stage of life. He works with a broad range of clients from diverse economic and cultural backgrounds, and has a particular interest in identity, be it a general sense of self, or sexual and gender identity. Allan is experienced in working with individuals from the LGBTQ+ communities, and is well versed counseling people in recovery from addiction.
Allan believes that each person is unique and it takes time and persistence to unravel their nuances and complexities, in order to alleviate stress and develop a pathway to revealing their healthy, authentic selves.
