About me
Hello! My name is Abi Brown. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist-Associate, License #204642 supervised by Billy Myers, M.A., LMFT-S, License #201183. I am a faith-based therapist, and my passion is to help individuals, couples, and families build and maintain healthy relationships.
My goal is to support pregnant or postpartum women, along with couples, who are starting or growing their families. While you are adjusting to your new role as a parent, you may be adjusting to your new roles and relationship with your partner, yourself, and your body too. Your hormones are fluctuating, sleep is interrupted, and doing something new can be scary, exhausting, and overwhelming. I don’t want to minimize the feelings of joy that come with welcoming a new life, but I also understand that not every day is easy, and oftentimes, you are doing your best to get through the day.
Professionally, I recently became licensed in Texas, but completed my Master’s degree at Point Loma Nazarene University, in San Diego, CA. While residing in California, I received my training at Sharp Mesa Vista Psychiatric Hospital where I served as a student therapist in the Eating Disorders Outpatient program. My time at Sharp was an incredible experience for learning and application of therapy, as I received training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help treat Eating Disorders, Mood Disorders, such as Anxiety and Depression, and Personality Disorders.
This translates to my current practice by using a variety of CBT and DBT therapy techniques to treat Postpartum Anxiety and Depression, and help clients navigate life transitions. I can help you address intrusive thoughts, provide you with tools to have more control over your emotions, improve communication, tolerate stress better, and increase your interpersonal effectiveness (i.e. learning how to ask for help).
Personally, while cultivating my own style of therapy, I have found it is important to me to be able to incorporate faith into my practice. I am a Christian and my faith has shaped my worldview, and therefore my therapeutic practices. This is largely why I was eager to begin my private practice journey, so I can provide a more personalized, faith-based service for clients who are seeking those services.
